I am very happy right now, I just decided on which transfer school I’m going to.

Professor’s research primarily include “pattern formation in fluid dynamics and crystal growth”.

That’s my jam! I think I just found my best-friend mentor teacher professor if I choose to go to UCSB.

A message from sralidar
Greetings! Love your cosplays! Just wondering if you ever blend prop/ costume creation with your love of physics/science? Like a spiffy gyro stabilized staff or a hydraulic suit of armor lit with electroluminescent tape/wire ? Because that could be really awesome xD

I do LOVE both physics/science AND cosplay, but don’t get me wrong, I am no engineer. (I can only dream of having a hydraulically operated cosplay
)

BUT for for my next new cosplay I AM using EL wiring and making my own LED-illuminated spheres, the later of which completely from scratch. My physics training in electromagnetics and circuts is allowing me to calculate what voltage of battery I need in my little LED circut so that nothing goes wrong, and the best configuration to put my LEDs in the circut (if I want more than one in one sphere) to give it different effects (in series, in parallel, or a combination of the two. Haven’t decided how I want the brightness configuration yet.)

So there’s that.

Teen’s invention could charge your phone in 20 seconds

(Photo: Intel)

Waiting hours for a cellphone to charge may become a thing of the past, thanks to an 18-year-old high-school student’s invention. She won a $50,000 prize Friday at an international science fair for creating an energy storage device that can be fully juiced in 20 to 30 seconds.

Everybody, remember this face.
Remember this name.
If this becomes a commonly used & highly lauded discovery, at some point a White guy is going to take credit, even if he has to word it like “Improved upon a previous…”
No no no
Fuck that guy.
Remember this brown girl.

So my mom and I have been working the same waitress job for 5-6 years now. She had been waitressing years before, but this is recently. Anyway, about… 15 minutes ago this guy she waited on left and told her to take care. Just that. Prior to this she had talked to him about Italy. Her people are from Florence, this and that, and she said she’s never been. She’s got 8 years of art education and she’s working a waitress job. It’s pretty… Sad and disappointing, I guess. Her and my father divorced 6 years ago and she hasn’t had a real job ever. Just been stuck in a small town she’s not from.

This man who we have never seen before tipped her 1000 dollars for a trip to Italy. Walked out, not another word.

…you know. Just when I start to lose faith in humanity….Hm.

"But here’s the thing. Never mind us blundering fools, check out the fans. Two hundred and ten of them, with the top-secret episode within their grasp – and because we asked nicely, they didn’t breathe a word. Not one. Even Doctor Who websites have been closing their comments sections, just in case anyone blurts. I’m gobsmacked. I’m impressed. Actually, I’m humbled. And we are all very grateful."

Here we go, some photos that don’t involve a mirror and visible technology! More info on this costume can be found here!
This shoot was a bit of a bust, but it was better then nothing. I do fancy a few of the pictures from it, which i’ll try to post over the next few days.
Also I’m kind of amazed of the response my test shots had - the positive feedback was really lovely so thanks a bunch for that!

Perf!

I just realized Azerbaijan’s entry was LITERALLY of a glass case of emotion.

Well played, Azerbaijan, well played.
